More Goodies

In addition, the Felting and Fiber Studio offers several online classes, including an ongoing, three-part Wet Felting for Beginner’s Online Class.

In our Sunday, September Session, Feltmakers Ireland guild member Annika Berglund shared a sample from the Felting and Fiber Studio’s Nuno Felting with Paper Lamination class.

A Forum

Plus, the Felting and Fiber Studio has a Community Forum with quarterly feltmaking challenges. It is also an excellent place to ask questions and research topics related to felting.

Feltmakers Ireland member Hélène Dooley is also a Felting and Fiber Studio member. Recently, she wrote a blog post for them about all the felt-related activities that happened in Ireland! And what a busy month September was!

Hélène shared the cracked mud and geode techniques in our April Sunday session.

Education: Felted Hanging Spiral Course with Hélène Dooley

Feltmakers Ireland member Hélène Dooley has two spaces left on her Felted Hanging Spiral course, which starts Friday, the 13th of October. Adding movement to an art piece takes it to a new dimension. The shape becomes fluid, even mesmerising.

This is a four-week course, and it is delivered through the following media:

  • A series of short videos which take students step-by-step through the process. Each video forms a single unit in the process. The result is that students can easily pick up where they left off and do not need to devote huge chunks of time to making their spirals at one or two ‘sittings’.
  • A set of PDF files which tie into the videos.
  • Daily access to the classroom chatroom for the duration of the course.

News: Contemporary Felt – Niki Collier Residency at IMMA

Feltmaker Ireland member Dr Niki Collier has been invited to develop a series of engagements at the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA).

The residency involves Niki’s practice by connecting her work to IMMA’s collections and current exhibitions.

Using the ancient craft of wool we would start the quest for identity – ours and that of our immediate circle of friends and family. How do we curate identity in the era of constant self-expression and fierce curation of narrative?

Dr Niki Collier

Join Niki Collier for this fun workshop for children and adults while viewing our photography exhibition ‘Influence and Identity’, Twentieth Century Portrait Photography from the Bank of America Collection.

The first workshop was on the 15th of June, but there are several more upcoming. Please keep an eye out on Niki’s Instagram – @nikicollierfelt.

The workshops are free, but booking is essential. There is also a drop-in on Sundays, so if you are free, come by at 2 PM.

This may be of interest to Feltmakers Ireland members/followers:

Nicola Brown and Dawn Edwards warmly invite you to participate in this year’s Felt United theme, ‘Changing Seasons, ’ through the sharing of your felt images pertaining to the theme.

The allure of nature’s changing seasons offers an endless source of inspiration…From the vibrant hues of autumn leaves to the delicate blossoms of spring, each season brings its unique magic and transformation.

Felt United is celebrated on the first Saturday in October, so this year, that falls on October 7, 2023.

Please feel free to interpret the theme in any way that you wish. We are requesting that you please include a short statement along with your photo(s). It’s always interesting for our members to hear from the artist regarding the thinking that goes into making their creations.

We look forward to seeing your felt submissions, and you may begin submitting your images as soon as your felt creation is complete.
