Fibreshed Ireland is partnering with Mallon Linen, Play Think Brink!, Artpark Hoerberg, and Linen Biennale NI for a weekend of presentations, panel discussions, craft demonstrations, exhibitions, a farm visit, music and poetry. Join to learn about the history of linen production on this island, explore current solutions and challenges, and help shape a regenerative, equitable, and joyful flaxen future.

When: Saturday, the 30th to Sunday 31st of August (subsidised bus leaves on Friday, the 29th in the evening).

Where: At An Creagán and Mallon Linen Farm, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland, UK.

Subsidised transport to and from Dublin (with stops in Drogheda, Dundalk, Newry, Armagh, Dungannon) and subsidised on-site accommodation are available.

Lunch (Saturday & Sunday) and dinner (Saturday) are included.

Of Interest: Island Threads – Rathlin Island Hosts Immersive Arts and Culture Retreat

Rathlin Island welcomes visitors for a unique overnight experience that blends local heritage with contemporary creativity. The event includes a stay at the Manor House and a local wool workshop led by Alison Gault and Anna Duffy, textile researchers from the Belfast School of Art.

The programme also features a photography workshop, guided tours of the West Lighthouse and Boathouse Museum, and a visit to the Breakwater Studio and shop. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a boat tour along the island’s cliffs.

Arts and crafts have long been integral to Rathlin’s traditional island culture. Rooted in a legacy of self-sufficiency, the creative practices are deeply connected to the native flora and fauna that thrive across the island’s rugged landscape.

Drop into the gallery at National College of Art and Design (NCAD) Dublin between 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM to experience textiles with your 7 senses:

Summer Solstice from the Brink! is a 10-day festival of culture, conversation, and workshops centred on the climate crisis. ‘Threads of Nature: Weaving Sustainability into Style’ on Tuesday, June 17th, has several events which may interest members and readers.

In the morning, there will be a panel talk on ‘Educating for a Regenerative Future for Textiles and Fashion’.

Natural dyer and Fibreshed Ireland founder Malú Colorín from Talú Earth is holding a workshop on transforming plants into textile colours. She will also give a talk in the afternoon.

Additionally, two other panels will be held in the afternoon to discuss regenerative farming for textiles and sustainable textile systems.

The Department of Environment, Climate, and Communications has released a draft consultation that the public can provide feedback on.

“The aim of this consultation is to seek views on a draft National Policy Statement and Roadmap on Circular Textiles. The document proposes the steps necessary for Ireland to achieve a circular economy in textiles.”

Submissions close: the 7th of July, 2025.

The draft Policy Statement and Roadmap, along with an executive summary, are available for download at the linked website below.

Submissions are welcome from organisations and individuals. Every year, during Dutch Design Week—the biggest design event in Northern Europe—the New Order of Fashion (NOOF) presents a new generation of the most forward-thinking textile and fashion talents. For the 2025 Dutch Design Week (18-26 October), they will focus on the theme of regeneration, exemplified by a deep dive into wool’s material, environmental, and cultural workings. They seek designers who work across themes like biodiversity, community, ecology, animal well-being, indigenous knowledge, decolonisation & more-than-human design.
