Event: Second Annual Woolly Celebration – Wise Wool Project – Co Kerry

The Wise Wool Project will have its 2nd Annual Woolly Celebration at Kate Kearny’s Cottage on Saturday, the 8th of November.

They invite the community to come together with local fibre artists, sheep farmers, and others interested in finding solutions to the current wool waste dilemma.

Attendees will be welcomed for an afternoon of workshops, storytelling, demonstrations, and a panel discussion exploring the future of wool.

Feltmakers Ireland guild member Sharon Wells will be teaching a needle felting workshop for adults.

BioEconomy Ireland Week - Friday, the 17th of October

REVEIRE University College Cork (UCC), the three-year wool research project funded by the Environmental Protection Agency, joins Bioeconomy Ireland Week 2025, for “The Circular Shift: Transforming Waste into a Bio-based Economy”.

The event will explore how research is transforming waste into bio-based value across Ireland, featuring EPA-funded projects tackling textile, wool, agri-food, and urban bio-waste.

REVEIRE will showcase their work on regenerative value systems for Irish-grown wool, contributing to a more circular and sustainable bioeconomy.

  • When: Friday, 17th October 2025
  • Time: 09:45 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Where: Maynooth University, Co Kildare.

The event is organised by Maynooth University and University College Cork, with support from the Circular Bioeconomy Cluster at Munster Technological University.

Fibershed Ireland, in partnership with Ánam Arann, has launched an exciting joint initiative called the Wear The Land Collective — a project dedicated to reviving the tradition of Aran sweaters and celebrating Irish wool heritage in the Northeastern United States.

Together, they’re working to make Irish wool more visible, accessible, and appreciated across the globe.

As part of this effort, they’re inviting sheep farmers to share details about their flocks and add their farms to a growing Irish Wool Directory. This directory will help connect farmers, makers, and consumers who value local, sustainable wool. The directory will be accessible via the Wear The Land Collective website, and you can also choose to also be featured on Fibershed Ireland’s website’s interactive map – https://fibreshedireland.ie/map/

The World Wool Forum will bring together international leaders from the design, fashion, interior, and textile fields, as well as farmers, thinkers, and innovators who are doing inspiring work. This live online session will forecast the future of wool fibres, while preserving sheep husbandry, animal welfare and craft heritage.

When: Sunday, the 19th of October, 14:00 – 19:00 Rome CET (13:00 – 18:00 Irish Time).

The first part of the forum will focus on ‘Identity and Place,’ and the second will explore ‘Farm and Future.’ Friend of Feltmakers Ireland, Blátnaid Gallagher, founder of the Galway Wool Co-op, is scheduled to speak about wool during the latter section.

Creating with Wool - Kerry Mental Health & Wellbeing Fest

The Wise Wool Project and The Nature Hub invite the public to spend the afternoon outdoors, creating with wool. As part of the Wise Wool Project, this event combines creativity with wellbeing to highlight the value of Irish wool.

Held between Saturday, 4th – 11th October 2025, the Kerry Mental Health and Wellbeing Fest aims to raise awareness of the available supports and services in the county, as well as empower people to engage with the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ through offering a dynamic and interactive programme of events.

When: The Workshop is on Tuesday, the 7th of October, 1-2:30 PM

Where: The Nature Hub at the Gap of Dunloe, Killarney, Co Kerry.

Felters, makers, and other crafters might enjoy a visit to the Scrap Store at Change Clothes in Dublin, where €5 fills a bag with an assortment of available treasures, which may include the following –

One of our guild members recently visited and found lovely Nunofelted fabrics that she is going to upcycle into her own work!

When: Scrap Store is open 12-4 PM, Thursdays through Sundays.

On Saturday, September 27th, the hours will be from 3-5 PM to accommodate the United Against Racism Carnival.

The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) is hosting its annual Earth Rising festival, which features over 50 free events designed to inspire, connect, and activate. This year’s event invites visitors to explore climate action through place, memory, creativity, and care. Events include art installations, music, screenings, talks, tours, and workshops.

When: From Friday, the 12th, through Sunday, the 14th of September.

For feltmakers looking to work with more Irish-raised wool, there’s a special opportunity this week. Texel-cross wool, sourced from Margaret of Kilmullen Farm in Wicklow and carefully cleaned by Feltmakers Ireland guild member Katarina of WoolStoreIE, is on sale.

According to our book ‘Exploring Irish Wool for Feltmaking’, Texel-cross is particularly well-suited for needlefelting, so this is a great chance to try something new with local fibre.

This Friday, bundles will be available at €7 each (regularly €9) or 3 for €20.

When: Fridays and Saturdays, from 9 AM to 2:30 PM.

Of Interest: From Fleece to Garment – Co Mayo

Explore the wonders of the world of wool. Creating sustainable clothing from wool is an ancient art. At this event, Fibreshed Ireland will share about how farmers can prepare their fleece to achieve better yields from their clip. There will be drop spindle lessons and spinning wheel demonstrations, as well as workshops in weaving, crochet, and knitting for both children and adults. There will also be demonstrations of wool carding and preparation, as well as a talk on natural dyes. Additionally, there will be a talk on Galway wool and Irish native breeds.

There will also be an exhibition of local photographs and a display of farm gates.

When: Sunday, the 17th of August, from 12 – 6 PM.

This Inside The Gate Open Farm Day is organised by Farming For Nature and is an opportunity to visit a farm and see the vital work that farmers do for nature in your local community.

On Sunday, August 31st, Blátnaid and Niall Gallagher’s farm, featuring native Galway Sheep and Connemara Ponies, will be open for visitors.

This is a free event open to families and will be held on various farms across the country on the 31st. Please register to attend, as space is limited.
