Pop-Up Textile Museum

The Liberties Weavers’ Pop-Up Textile Museum will bring the rich and often overlooked textile heritage of Dublin 8 to life through a vibrant, community-led exhibition. Drawing on materials and stories from Botany Mill, Henry White’s, Glen Abbey and many more, the museum will showcase historic artefacts, archival documents, photographs, and contemporary responses that trace the area’s deep connection to weaving, clothing production, and industry.

WHERE: Deanery Mews, St Patrick’s Close, Dublin 8

WHEN:

  • Opening on Thursday, the 7th May. Doors open at 1 PM, and the official opening is at 2 PM.
  • Thursday, the 7th of May, from 1-8 PM
  • Friday, the 8th of May, from 12-7 PM
  • Saturday, the 9th of May, from 10 AM-5 PM

Walk, Weave, & Whiskey Experience

History under your feet, stories in every street. Join Liz Gillis for a guided walk through The Liberties, then wind down with weaving stories, and a whiskey tasting at Teeling Whiskey Distillery.

Entry to the Pop-up Textile Museum is free, but the walk on Wednesday the 6th at 4:30 PM is not and needs to be booked.

On Thursday, the 8th of May, at 19:00, there will be a talk by Cathy Scuffil, Historian in Residence for the Dublin South Central area, about the history of weaving in the Liberties.

Event: Liberties Weavers Walking Tour – Waitlist

The Liberties Weavers has created a guided walk around the area to share some places, people and textiles that have shaped Ireland’s textile history.

Marja Almqvist, textile artist, weaver and initial mind behind The Liberties Weavers, will conduct this amazing experience – where the participants rediscover The Liberties as the centre of textile production for over 1000 years, an aspect of our heritage that is often overlooked.

The tour will start at the Hyatt Centric The Liberties Dublin at 11 am.

The tour is not free but includes entry to the St Patrick Cathedral.

When: Saturday, the 27th of July, 2024, 11:00 AM – 13:00 PM.

Exhibition: Liberties Weavers at Pallas Projects Studios

Members of The Liberties Weavers will have an art exhibit at the Pallas Projects Studios.

The exhibition is centred around the revered figure of Brigid, the Celtic goddess of fire, wisdom, and creativity. Through intricate weaving techniques and vibrant colours, the exhibition brings to life the essence of Brigid, capturing her multifaceted nature and enduring symbolism.

Feltmakers Ireland members Deirdre Crofts and Sandra Chase have pieces in the group exhibition.

The opening night is on Thursday, the 1st of February, from 5 to 8pm.

​The exhibition continues through Friday, the 2nd of February, from 12 to 6 pm.
