A wonderful opportunity to work with Dagmar Binder

There are a couple of places left on the workshop with felt designer Dagmar Binder.

Dagmar has been working with textiles, art and design for many years, until she fell in love with felt in 1997. Since then, wool has become her favourite material and nowadays she creates strictly unique handmade felt items: fine art objects, stage costumes, garments and fashion accessories. Art works may include all kind of textile and similar fibres, but wearables are always made of high quality natural materials, such as fine merino wool and silk. Since 2007, she’s also been teaching her felting techniques on national and international levels.

We will be making the ultimate in wearable art – a wrap skirt on this three day workshop, Saturday – Monday 1-3rd April.

We’re very excited about the upcoming Make a Wrap Skirt workshop hosted by renowned textiles artist, Dagmar Binder.

Dagmar Binder has been working with textiles, art and design for many years, until she fell in love with felt in 1997. Since then, wool has become her favourite material and nowadays she creates strictly unique handmade felt items: fine art objects, stage costumes, garments and fashion accessories. […] Since 2007, she’s also been teaching her felting techniques on national and international levels.

The workshop runs from Saturday 1st-Monday 3rd of April, 2017 at St. Anne’s Parish Centre in Portmarnock. Further details can be found in the application form below.

Completed application forms and full payments to be received no later than the 1st of March.  Places will be allocated on a lottery system among fully paid up members of Feltmakers Ireland.

Any remaining unfilled places will be allocated by lottery among remaining applicants.  Unsuccessful applicants will have their payments refunded.

Details of the materials required will be given to the successful applicants via email in advance of the workshop.

Marjolien Dallinga workshop

FELTMAKERS IRELAND  are delighted to announce a forthcoming workshop with celebrated Canadian artist and  feltmaker, Marjolien Dallinga.This 3 day sculptural felt workshop will take place at  The  Seamus Ennis Centre, Naul, Co. Dublin from  Saturday 17th to Monday 19th September 2016   10:00am until 17:00pm each day

This workshop is not suitable for beginners

Cost : members €180  non members €200

The title of this workshop is:

FORM IN FELT: FOLDING AND UNFOLDING

“Students will be challenged to play with their own designs using sculptural felting techniques, deepening their awareness of the creative process with an accent on the journey and not the end result. This is an experimental discovery workshop. At the end of each day we will discuss creations to heighten awareness of color and design choices. An exhibition of all work will complete the course.”  Marjolien Dallinga

Materials are not included in the cost. Wool will be available to buy on the day or you can bring your own.

Materials needed include  approx 1KG wool in as many colours as possible, you can use roving or batting, merino wool or other wools,  also some (100 gr) black and greys.

Join Us Next Sunday

Some of the lucky people who recently attended Charlotte Sehmisch workshop in Dublin are going to bring along their pieces and show what they made and talk about her fascinating techniques. Join us for coffee and an exchange of ideas  on Sunday morning July 10th from 10.30-13.00 in our Studio. Charlotte

The studio is situated at the Knockmaroon Gate of the Phoenix Park. There is a €5 charge for tea/coffee/bikkies

June Sunday Session

Sunday June 12th is our next monthly Sunday Session.  This month we will be looking at the amazing pieces produced at the recent Lyda Rump – Techniques Workshop.  They were very busy learning wonderful things to apply to any felt project.  It is always exciting to learn something specific from artists we admire!  Come join us for a few lovely hours.

Here is a fantastic opportunity to expand and enrich your feltmaking experience. We are delighted to host a Masterclass workshop led by inspirational Felt artist and textile designer Charlotte Sehmisch. Come and sculpt with felt and create beautiful cellular structures. Charlotte’s three dimensional surfaces and geometric shapes evolve into twisting organic forms, expressing her unique vision and innovative approach to the art of feltmaking.

This masterclass will introduce a variety of 3D surface techniques representing felt structures. During this 3 day workshop, participant can either make small samples of these different surface techniques or one project using one technique.

Charlotte is an award winning and internationally acclaimed German felt artist and textile designer for Weimar, the home of Bauhaus, Germany. She has exhibited her work worldwide in Germany, France, Italy, Hungary, Austria, USA and Australia. The materials for the workshop is not included in the cost of the workshop. You can bring your own wool (detailed list will be available later) and wool will be available for purchase as well at the workshop.

This 3 days’ workshop costs €150 for Feltmakers Ireland members and €180 for non members. As our guild exist mainly to support our members, places are allocated by lottery among members first. Any remaining places are then allocated by a second lottery among non -member applicants.

The workshop will be held in Kilruddery House and Gardens (Bray, Co. Wicklow) starting Friday June 10 until Sunday June 12. Time: 10:00 to 5:00 pm.

Workshops with Lyda Rump

We have two wonderful workshops coming up in April. Lyda Rump is joining us from the Netherlands to give a one day class teaching techniques, and a two day sculpture class, inspired by the sea. Lyda is a highly respected teacher with many years of experience. These classes are a great chance to advance your abilities, whether you are a beginner felt maker, or an experienced one.

The techniques class, Let Shapes Arise, is on Friday April 22 at The Visitors Centre of The Phoenix Park.

The Sea Sculptures class is on  Saturday & Sunday April 23 and 24 and takes place in the new St Andrew’s National School in Lucan. Application forms are available to download here.
