Education: Embroidery on Soluble Fabric Course – Co Wicklow

Two-part class on using Soluble Fabric to create embroidery designs for all types of textile art and creations, including feltmaking, quilting, and other textile art. The instructor, Anne Jeffares, is a former fashion design tutor at Bray Institute for Further Education, the former owner of The Fabric Gallery in Bray, and a textile artist. This class will take place on October 9th and 16th, from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM, at Jacksmill, the repurposed old sawmill near Newcastle and Newtownmountkennedy in County Wicklow.

Event: Celebrating Handmade – Craft Market and Demonstrations – Enniskerry – Co Wicklow

The Wicklow Craft Foundation is holding a craft market this weekend featuring ceramics, glass, textiles, leather, wire sculptures, and bookmarking. Miriam Brady will be there with her felted artwork, and she and some of the other makers will demonstrate their craft.

Where: The Schoolhouse for Art, Enniskerry Village, Co Wicklow.
Date: Saturday and Sunday, 17th and 18th of August 2024
Time: 10 AM- 4:30 PM

This event is part of August Craft Month, a celebration of craft organised by the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland and Craft NI. August Craft Month is an all-Ireland event with over 400 activities.

Event: Tinahely Agricultural Show – Sharon Wells Vending

This August bank holidayMonday, the 5th, is the Tinahely Agricultural Show in County Wicklow. A local tradition since 1935, the Tinahely Show welcomes 20,000 visitors every year.

Events include the Best of Wicklow Exhibition, IFA Food Village, Trade Stands, Quilt Displays, Pets Corner, Baby Show, Kids’ Funfair, Live Country Music, Vintage, Crafts, Live Music, Pony Games, Show Jumping, Livestock, Goats, Machinery Displays, and more.

Feltmakers Ireland guild member Sharon Wells will be in the Sheep and Wool Tent, where she will display and sell her original felted landscapes, coiled baskets, pot stands, art yarn, batts, and roving.

County Wicklow is one of the few counties in Ireland that boasts its own breed, the Wicklow Cheviot. Breeders of a wide range of breeds attend the show each year, competing across a range of classes, including pedigree and commercial.

Opportunity: Wicklow-based Makers – Craft Fair

Vending opportunity via Feltmakers Ireland guild member Sharon Wells: The 2nd annual Celebrating Handmade Craft Market is now taking applications for its two-day event, which will take place on August 17th and 18th at the School House For Art, Enniskerry.

This opportunity is organised by the Wicklow Craft Foundation (WCF) and is for Co Wicklow-based makers.

One can take a stall for one or two days. It costs 30 euros per day for WCF members. One doesn’t need to be a member, but the stall will cost a bit more, which you can offset by joining WCF.  They are arranging a group market insurance which one can avail of for 10 euros a day, if you do not have your own insurance.

Event: Wildflowers and Wool in Wicklow

Foraging and Natural Dye workshop, Saturday June 22nd, in association with Made in Wicklow and supported by Wicklow Craft Foundation.

Join Wildflowers and Wool in Wicklow Workshop in Blessington, overlooking the lakes, for an immersive day. Meet the alpaca, pigs, and sheep that reside nearby. Forage in Miriam Brady’s garden for medicinal and dye plants. Make your own natural teas and sample an organic, natural lunch. In the afternoon, Feltmakers Ireland member Sharon Wells, will share about the heritage of wool in Ireland and how to use natural dyes.

Exhibition: Group Exhibition at Signal Arts Centre

The 04 Textile Group is a collective of eight textile artists based in Dublin and
Wicklow, who have been exhibiting together since 2004.

Members work in a variety of contemporary and traditional textile forms, using a range of techniques and a broad mix of materials. They are passionate about the potential and wonder of working with textiles and are delighted to have the opportunity to share their work at Signal Arts Centre in Bray.

This current exhibition, ’04 – 24 Lasting Impressions,’ is a retrospective glance at some of the work previously exhibited over the last two decades. It will also include work created specifically for this exhibition.

Education: Landscape Felting Class with Sharon Wells

Feltmakers Ireland member Sharon Wells will teach a four-part evening class on creating felted landscapes.

Education: Made in Wicklow – Craft Workshops

Throughout January, Wicklow Libraries will hold the Made in Wicklow Craft Workshop series. Classes include needle felting landscapes with Feltmakers Ireland member Sharon Wells. In addition, there are pottery, crochet, bookmaking, woodworking, and calligraphy classes with other instructors.

The series is set to coincide with and celebrate the launch of the Made in Wicklow Craft trail, which is scheduled to launch at Powerscourt on St Bridget’s Day, Thursday, 1st February 2024, alongside a five-day exhibition of the excellence and difference of Wicklow Craft.

Education: Dyeing Classes via the Muddle in Bray

Feltmakers Ireland member Sharon Wells will teach a series of in-person, dying classes in November via the Muddle in Bray, Co. Wicklow.

The classes are on Tuesdays, from 10:30 AM until 1:30 PM.

The first class is on how to dye wool, silk fibre and yarn. The class is perfect for felters, spinners, weavers, etc.

The second class is on natural dyeing.

The third class is making paints from plants.

The fourth class is on Procion (fibre-reactive) dyeing, taught by Anne Jeffares.

Supplies will be provided. Class size is limited. You will receive a discount of 5 euros for each additional class you book.
