The LOEWE FOUNDATION launches the seventh edition of the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize, an international award celebrating excellence in craftsmanship.
The Foundation seeks to recognize uniquely talented artisans whose artistic vision and will to innovate set new standards for the future of craft.
The prize for the winning entry is 50,000 euros. The shortlisted and winning works will feature in the exhibition and accompanying catalogue in Paris in spring 2024.
The Art for Change prize is available to emerging artists based in the following M&C Saatchi key global regions: UK, Europe, Americas, Asia, Australia, and Middle East & Africa.
To apply, artists must be aged 18 or over and within the first five years of what they hope to be a successful artistic career.
Accepted media includes painting, drawing, illustration, photography, collage, 2D mixed-media, video or film.
Submitted works must creatively respond to the theme ‘Regeneration’ and have been executed since 1 January 2020.
The National College of Art & Design (NCAD), in partnership with CONNECT – the Science Foundation Ireland Research Centre for Future Networks and Communications – is seeking candidates for funded interdisciplinary practice-based doctoral study beginning in September 2023.
The proposed project – located at both NCAD’s Thomas Street campus and at CONNECT Centre in Trinity College Dublin – will examine the varying forms and systems of knowledge underpinning technology research, development and application.
The structured PhD is a four-year, full-time programme designed for emerging and professional artists, whose work moves across multiple arts disciplines. Funding is per annum.

Not strictly textiles, but may be of interest: The Benchspace Designer in Residence Programme is currently open for submissions.
This programme endeavours to bring established designers and makers from outside of County Cork, Ireland, to showcase their work and contribute fresh perspectives to the professional makers at Benchspace.
Applications are also welcomed from academic staff of creative programs in any discipline seeking a period of return to a professional workshop environment.
The Residency affords the successful candidate the opportunity to create a new body of work or facilitate the exploration of innovative methodologies within the creative community at Ireland’s first shared, creative manufacturing hub, based in Cork City.
Programme details: – 4-week residency across August and September 2023 – Access and inductions to Benchspace’s professional workshops (wood, fine metal, digital fabrication, product photography and digital design) – Individual studio workspace within our shared workshop – €2000 to put towards travel, accommodation and expenses – €200 materials budget

Future Makers is a Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) initiative which recognises talent, potential and creativity. It aims to support the next generation of makers, designers and craftspeople to take the step from training into an enterprise. Divided into student and emerging practitioner categories and covering a wide range of disciplines, it is one of the largest prize-funded award programmes in Europe.
Note: Future Makers is the qualifying competition for the annual RDS Craft Awards, which provides 5 x €10,000 awards to makers at a formative stage in their careers. These five significant awards are for developing business and craft skills for those pursuing a professional career in the sector.
The exhibition recognises the creative talents and skills of a broad community of high-calibre artist and celebrates textiles’ rightful place amongst high art.

By starting promptly at 10.30 AM, we hope to have the formalities of the meeting completed in good time, so we can listen to our Guest Speaker, our founder Elizabeth Bonnar, give a short account of ‘Our Guild’s Beginnings’ and glimpse some of her fantastic work.
We hope to have an unofficial launch at the culmination of our brilliant research project, our wool book – Exploring Irish Wool for Feltmaking.

GUEST SPEAKER – Elizabeth Bonnar, the founder of Feltmakers Ireland, will address the meeting on the History of FI and may display some of her work.
Bursary Draw for €250 for all paid-up members will occur at the AGM. The award is to be used to attend a Felting Workshop (either in-person or online). Afterwards, a blog post reporting on the workshop/class would be most welcome.
