Annual Guild Exhibition – Opposites Attract

Feltmakers Ireland’s annual exhibition is now open at the Phoenix Park Visitors’ Centre. The gallery hours are from 10 AM until 4 PM daily. (On the 6th and 7th, the Centre was CLOSED due to staffing shortages).

The show is in the historic Phoenix Park Visitors’ Centre gallery. The Dublin Bus number 99 conveniently stops near the Visitors’ Centre.

There is information (and maps) on the Park’s website – https://www.phoenixpark.ie/directions/

The poster’s image is from a close-up of Maria McGarry’s piece, ‘Winter Solstice, Newgrange.’

Our blog has photographs from the exhibition – https://feltmakersireland.com/2024/05/06/exhibition-some-photos-from-opposites-attract/

Opposites Attract Application

We will keep this up until the end of the exhibition as it contains information for the artists in the ‘Guidelines’ and ‘Terms and Conditions’ sections.

This information we need includes the following –

  • Title
  • Materials and Techniques Used
  • Size (can be an estimate)
  • Artist’s Biography
  • The piece’s inspiration and relation to the theme, ‘Opposites Attract’.

Please include ‘PENDING ARTWORK’ in the online form’s ‘Artist’s Biography’ section.

Submit all of this information via our online Exhibition Form BELOW.

Next, PLEASE email your ‘Photograph of the Artist’ to feltmakersie@gmail.com

{Having this information and your Artist’s Photograph will aid us in preparing the exhibition}.

This year, the exhibition runs from the 4th of May until the 26th of May.

This year’s theme is ‘Opposites Attract’, which is open to your creative interpretation. During our March Sunday Session, we had a mind-mapping exercise.

Our previous exhibitions have been juried. This year, we are having a non-juried show. However, as space within the gallery is limited, TWO pieces of artwork can be submitted, but only one will be selected. If we have room, the second piece ~may~ be included.

The artwork’s dimensions cannot be wider than 60 cm, but no height limit exists. Both 2D and 3D works are accepted.

• All digital photo submissions must arrive before Friday, the 19th of April, 2024.

UPDATE: DEADLINE has been extended a week: Friday, the 26th of April, 2024.

Clear photos of the artwork are essential. Photos should be taken against a white background for inclusion in digital media.

The Guidelines

  • You must be a 2024 paid-up member of Feltmakers Ireland.
  • Your submission may be two or three-dimensional but should be mostly made of felted wool.
  • The show is non-juried, but the Committee reserves the right to refuse artworks.
  • There is a maximum of TWO entries per member. Only ONE will automatically included. If there is room, the second piece may be included.
  • The maximum size is 60 cm wide. There is no limit on height.
  • The application deadline is Friday, the 19th of April, 2024 . It has been EXTENDED to the 26th of April.
  • There is no entry fee.
  • Pieces need to be ready to be hung or installed.
  • Pieces are considered sold when paid in full. We will have a SUMUP card reader at the gallery.
  • The Guild will take 10% of the price of the work sold for handling and wrapping.
  • Selected artwork must stay in the gallery until the end of the exhibition.

  3. Other textile techniques (as well as non-textile media) may be included, though handmade felting techniques must be the principal ones.
  4. The work must be personally handmade after January 2023; the work should not have previously been shown in any exhibition.
  5. Work done during courses or under the guidance of teachers is not allowed.
  6. Each entrant may submit up to TWO pieces of work. Only one will automatically be selected.

Image filenames should include the artist’s name and the work’s title. ONE photograph of the artist should also be included.
  9. You will be asked to provide your actual piece for the exhibition on or before Tuesday, the 30th of April, 2024. There will be three drop-off points: one in Dublin North, one in Dublin South, and one in Co Kildare. This information will be emailed to members who apply to the show. If, for some reason, an artist cannot drop off by the 30th or 31st, they may bring their work to the show on the morning of the hanging day – Friday, the 3rd of May, between 10 AM – 11 AM. Please note: due to the installation of Bloom, this part of Phoenix Park may be much more crowded than usual. If you live far away, you may mail your piece. We will email the three drop-off/mailing points to members with a piece in the show.
  10. Artists accept responsibility for getting pieces to the organisers on time and collecting them promptly after the exhibition. Feltmakers Ireland will permit pick-up from the gallery at the show’s end on Sunday, the 26th of May, at 2 PM 2024. The show’s takedown will be between 2 and 3 PM on the 26th. Feltmakers Ireland will arrange and provide three collection points after the show for those who cannot pick up at the gallery. However, we want to avoid being responsible for long-term storage.
  11. Artists are expected to help invigilate at the Phoenix Park Visitors’ Centre gallery. Selected artwork must stay in the gallery until the end of the exhibition. If a piece is sold to a visitor from abroad, it is the artist’s responsibility to ship the art after the show ends.
  12. Feltmakers Ireland will assume we can use submitted photos to advertise the Exhibition unless you inform us in writing that you withhold your permission.
