The June 14 deadline for entries to the 2017 RDS Craft Awards is fast approaching. Open to craftspeople living and working on the island of Ireland, it is a two strand competition where the work of emerging and established makers is judged separately with specific prizes to support emerging craftspeople.
The 2017 prize fund is in excess of €30,000 with the top prize winners in each strand receiving RDS Awards of Excellence and a cheque for €5,000. 10 category prize winners in both emerging and established maker strands will receive €500 sponsored by the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland. There are also many other prizes on offer including a free stand for an emerging maker at the 2017 National Crafts & Design Fair, the RDS Graduate Award of €2,000 and the RDS Muriel Gahan Award of €2,000 to support a developing craft business.
Ceramics Ireland is sponsoring a €1,000 award for excellence and innovation in a ceramic entry this year to celebrate its 40th anniversary. See the website for details of the many other prizes and to view the rules of entry.
Winning and selected entries will be shown at the RDS Craft Awards Exhibition at the Dublin Horse Show in August. Award winners will be shown at the National Crafts & Design Fair, RDS (December, 2017)
