Event: Textiles in Prison Tour with Collections Curator Brian Crowley

Brian Crowley speaking at the Pearse Museum at St Enda’s Park.

Did you know that textiles were used as a gesture of rebellion in prison at the beginning of the 20th century?

Can you guess what craft was considered an upper-class occupation and which was a working-class necessity?

The tour will be led by Brian Crowley, the curator of the Pearse Museum at St. Enda’s in Rathfarnham and Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin.

Originally from Naas, Co. Kildare, he studied English and History at Trinity College and then completed a Masters in Museology at the University of East Anglia. He has been working at the Pearse Museum since 2001. He is also a director of the Irish Museum’s Association and has served as editor of its journal, ‘Museums Ireland’.

Time: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Date: the 1st of December, 2023.

Meeting Point: 10:45 AM at Kilmainham Gaol.
