Hats Off in Farmleigh

Plans are well under way for our exhibition of handmade felt hats in the beautiful location of Farmleigh in the Phoenix Park. Many thanks to the OPW for their support with this project.

From their website:

Feltmakers Ireland in association with the Office of Public Works presents  “Hats Off in Farmleigh” – an exhibition of work by Feltmakers Ireland.  Also featuring a beautiful film on feltmaking made by internationally famous Hungarian Felt Artist – Judit Pocs.

There will be short talks every day, during the exhibition, on Feltmakers Ireland and the craft of felt.  Feltmakers Ireland was founded in May 2003. The association provides workshops with national and international tutors, exhibitions and information about the craft. This exhibition is a showcase of the amazing felted hats our members have designed and made.

The exhibition runs from 28th February till 2nd March. Opening hours from 10am – 5pm.

Admission free.

Sunday Session 9th February 2014

IMG_6741Ever wondered if a birds nesting ‘box’ could be made in felt? Anne Walsh has been experimenting with the idea using the techniques she learnt from Pam McGregor last year in Amsterdam. She doesn’t claim that the vessels will work as bird nest sites or feeding stations (that’s up to the birds) but they can be pretty and the techniques would work for many sculptural forms.

Come and join us on Sunday next, 9th February, in the Feltmakers Studio in the Phoenix Park (beside Knockmaroon Gate)from 10.30-13.00
