Seasonal Craft Fairs

Keep an eye out for stalls selling felt at the craft fairs around the country this Christmas. It’s always a good idea to buy hand made Irish products as gifts. The Crafts Council of Ireland have a section on their website called “Imagined Designed & Made in Ireland” with a wide range of crafts that are available – http://www.giveirishcraft.com

Felting in the Sunshine

We received a lovely email from Sue Johnson about a course she and Lizzie Houghton are giving in the South of France next year. Sue came to Ireland a couple of years ago and gave two workshops making jackets and hats – she was very generous with her time and skills and we learnt so much from her visit. Details are on this link:

Planning Ahead

We have been working on plans for our annual Basic & Beyond workshop which will be held in January 2011. It is a great workshop for new feltmakers and also for anyone who  want to refresh their skills. It would make a really nice gift for someone for Christmas – just as they say a puppy is not just for Christmas, neither is a new skill which will give endless pleasure way into the future. There is a link to the application form below.

Walk on the Wild Side

Our next Sunday Session, on 14th Nov, will be an opportunity to try out our new purchase – a wild carder that can card  a huge range of fibre and yarn thickness. Come along and bring any matted old wool fibre you have to card or colours you would like to blend, you can try out our old drum carder and the new arrival. We meet at 10.30 – everyone is welcome and there is no charge! It is a great opportunity to share felting tips and experiences so please bring along your latest creations for “show & tell”.

The image of the month is a beautiful piece – “REM 40” made by Gina Faustino for the “Tread Softly” exhibition of textiles by members of the Crafts Council of Ireland. The exhibition can be seen n Dublin in the Visitors Centre in the Phoenix Park in February 2011 and the Cork Museum in March 2011
