There was a very nice mention of our Open Day in today’s Irish Times, you can view it at http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/travel/2009/0829/1224253450638.html
Have a look out for the Feltmakers Ireland stand in Dun Laoghaire festival of World Cultures. It is a very lively and colourful festival and well worth a visit. We will be there on Saturday 29th August so if you are at the festival be sure to find us.
We are expanding our Drop In days for the Autumn. In addition to our regular monthly Wednesday(Blanchardstown) and Sunday (Lucan) sessions we have added an extra day in The Fabric Gallery in Bray once a month. The sessions are open to all and people who are new to felt are very welcome. We ask that everyone would bring along a basic feltmaking kit with them (towel, soap, bubble wrap, small bamboo mat and any fibre they want to use). Every month there is a different topic and whenever space and time allows we would hope that everyone who attends will get a chance to make their own pieces. The topics and dates for the Autumn are:
- September – What is Wool? We will learn about the different types of wool fibre and rare breeds of sheep We will make samples to see how they felt
Blanchardstown – 16 Sept Lucan – 27 Sept Bray 21 Sept
- October – Fingerless Gloves/Cuffs. This year at the learning curve at the K&S show we will be teaching how to make cuffs/gloves so our October sessions will be an opportunity to learn about different designs.
Blanchardstown – 21 Oct Lucan – 25 Oct Bray – 19 Oct
- November – Jewellery – we will look at and make a range of beautiful felt jewellery incorporating beads, yarn etc.
Blanchardstown – 18 Nov Lucan – 22 Nov Bray – 23 Nov
- December – all that glitters….. we will make all things Christmassy, including tree decorations and small seasonal felt gifts.
Blanchardstown – 9 Dec Lucan – 13 Dec Bray – 14 Dec
Liz Brown, a member of Feltmakers Ireland living in Scotland, had worked on the felt “props” for this charming ad for Robinsons drinks. “The new advert for Robinsons natural fruit juice is currently showing on television (in the UK). Working with Justin Wilson at Justin Illusions Studio in Ayrshire, Heartfelt (Liz’s businness – see www.heartfeltbyliz.com) was involved in creating many of the textiles items in the ‘shoot’. Chairs ,couches ,rugs and even little felted hats. To view the advert follow the links to utube
Felt making is a very diverse art form.

As part of Heritage Week this year Feltmakers Ireland are having an open day at our studio in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. There will be feltmaking demonstrations, a display of work and refreshments in the sunshine (wishful thinking!). It will be a great opportunity to meet up and have a look inside the studio. There is a map of the location in an earlier post – see below. There is a shuttle bus in the Park, get off at the Ordanance Survey stop and it’s a very short walk to the Knockmaroon Gate. There is a large car park beside the studio. See also http://www.heritageweek.ie

The webpage is in Swedish, so you have to click at the button “felt in focus” on the first page on the left, the next page has four images and there the text in English. Click on one of the pictures to get into the photogallery.
