Thanks for that Jacki - dyeing is great fun, I couldn't get over how Clodagh could predict so accurately what shade the wool would turn out.

I have discovered some wonderful articles on dyeing wool by Susan Sylvia.

http://ezinearticles.com/?Bring-Your-Wool-Dyeing-Into-the-21st-Century!-Advanced-Methods-Made-Simple&id=3514458

Susan has experimented with dyeing for many months and has broken down the mystery of dyeing to mathematical formulas (not quite). She has written three very informative articles and is now planning a book.

Although Susan's wool is for rug hooking I think the same principles should apply to wool fleece for felt-making.

Anyway I have decided to begin my own sampling soon with wool fibres, silk fibres and silk fabrics and aim to build up a portfolio of swatches as Susan has done.
I will keep you posted on progress.

If you are interested in rug hooking visit Susan's site at

Hi Bodil - thanks for your message. It was lovely to see you in Italy and we are delighted to have a Danish member of Feltmakers Ireland. Felt in Focus looks very interesting for next year...might be time for another trip to Denmark.
